Properly Sealing Ballot Bags

In most states an improperly sealed ballot container cannot be counted in a re-count. Ballots that cannot be recounted can cause a whole list of issues from doubts about the integrity of the election to law suits from the candidates and so on. Below are some tips on how to seal an approved zippered ballot bag or container manufactured by ElectionSource.Voting Equipment

Tip #1
Make sure you are using a ballot container that has been pre-approved by your governing election official (i.e. State, Elections Supervisor, Board of Canvassers, County Clerk etc.). In most states there is a sticker or card affixed to your ballot container that shows when it was approved, who approved it, and when the approval expires. If you are required to have such an approval tag and you do not have one on the container you are sealing, contact your election supervisor for instructions.

Ballot sealTip #2
Every ballot bag that holds ballots must have a recordable seal sealing it after the election is over. If your ballot bag or box has more than one opening make sure both openings have approved seals and that you record them both on election day.

Tip #3
Bags must be sealed properly to ensure that ballots cannot be inserted or removed from the container without breaking the seal or damaging the container. Make sure the seal goes through the hole where the zippers come together and the "D" ring. Do not place the seal through the zipper loops.

Tip #4
As you can see in the picture above which shows the correct way to seal a zippered container we have filled the gap in the zipper holes so no one can accidently put a seal on them. Kits to do this yourself are available for FREE at ElectionSource by calling 1-888-742-8037 or by ordering from our website. Click Here >>
